Oracle debuts Base Database Cloud@Customer system for on-premises databases

Oracle Corp. today debuted an appliance that enterprises can use to run its flagship database at locations such as branch offices.

The system is known as Base Database Cloud@Customer.

Oracle already offers several appliances that enable companies to run its software on-premises. One of the systems, the Exadata Cloud@Customer X11M, is specifically optimized to run its database. The machine is geared toward large database environments: It ships with up to 6,080 cores and 87.5 terabytes of memory.

The new Base Database Cloud@Customer system is designed for smaller-scale deployments that require less hardware. Oracle sees customers using it to support small business units and remote corporate locations.
