Nancy Mace (R-SC) defended her amendment to the fiscal 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, arguing that “chopping off body parts does not make a better soldier,” and saying the U.S. military should focus on producing “the toughest warfighters in the world.” “We want the toughest warfighters in the world, not a military gutted by gender delusion. Chopping off body parts does not make a better soldier. It destroys military readiness. Our colleagues on the left seem to disagree,” Mace said in a post on X. The NDAA is updated annually through a multi-step legislative cycle involving committee markups, floor amendments, and a House-Senate conference.
Since it’s considered a critical “must-pass” bill for military funding, lawmakers frequently attach hundreds of policy and budget amendments to it each year, with seven subcommittees focusing on information technologies, intelligence and special operations, military personnel, readiness, seapower and projection forces, strategic forces, and tactical and land forces.
