Back-to-school season is nearly here, which means some useful tech deals have started to trickle in. Today, we spotted Apple’s ultraslim iPhone Air MagSafe Battery for 40 percent off at both Amazon and Best Buy, taking the price from $99 to $59. It’s the best MagSafe charger for iPhone users, says our tech writer, Jordan McMahon. It pairs best with the iPhone Air (Apple says it’s meant to be a semipermanent extension of the Air’s battery) but works with any Apple phone. (Outdoor and travel writer Kat Gillespie adds that an unintended benefit is that it effectively converts her older lightning-cable-era iPhone to a USB-C one.) When senior writer Michael Zhao put it to the test against the Anker Nano power bank, he liked that the Air feels like it’s actually part of the phone when it’s attached to the Air. He also says that it has slightly rounder edges than the Nano, which makes it more comfortable to hold, and it wasn’t prone to overheating while in use.
