Nigeria’s AI-skilled workforce is moving faster than its businesses, creating the widest adoption gap among major outsourcing markets

Nigeria has developed one of the world’s most AI-literate workforces, but businesses in Africa’s largest economy are adopting the technology much more slowly, threatening the country’s ability to convert its growing talent pool into higher productivity and outsourcing investment.

Nigeria ranked sixth for workforce AI literacy in the 2026 Global Outsourcing AI Readiness Index, ahead of most of the 25 major outsourcing destinations assessed.

However, it ranked only 19th for enterprise AI adoption, producing the widest gap between workforce capability and business deployment in the index.

The difference suggests that Nigerian workers are learning and using artificial intelligence faster than the companies employing them are integrating it into their operations.

The index was produced by Ataraxis Management, a United States-based offshore staffing and outsourcing company. It assesses countries based on population AI adoption, workforce AI literacy, enterprise AI adoption and the strength of their AI education pipeline.
