A 61-year-old Serbian passenger who was partially sucked out of an aircraft after the window next to his seat shattered en route from Greece to Germany on a Ryanair flight earlier this month continues to suffer the effects of his ordeal.
“My neck hurts, I have headaches and I’m taking sedatives because I can’t sleep,” Ljubisa Karovic, who was hospitalized with multiple injuries, told Greek public broadcaster ERT on Wednesday,
“God saved me. My wife, sitting next to me, a woman in the row behind me, and another passenger held onto me so I wouldn’t get sucked out of the airplane’s window. I couldn’t even panic at that moment because I passed out three times,” he said.
Karovic’s lawyer, Vassilis Tsiaras, said his client was partially outside the aircraft for 90 to 120 seconds and sustained significant injuries to his neck, head and torso. The incident took place on July 10, shortly after takeoff from Thessaloniki, northern Greece, en route to Memmingen, Germany. The flight was operated by Ryanair subsidiary Malta Air.
Tsiaras added that the family plans to take legal action against the airline.
