As injectable weight-loss medicines become more popular, healthcare professionals are reminding South Africans that where a medicine comes from can be just as important as what's inside it.

The same semaglutide molecule behind the Ozempic conversation is set to become more affordable in South Africa, but the launch is about far more than the latest weight-loss trend.

From July 27, Novo Nordisk South Africa will launch an authorised, more affordable copy of their famous semaglutide molecule in partnership with Acino, part of Arcera, in a move the companies say is aimed at expanding access to treatment for people living with type 2 diabetes.
