Samsung says the new Android XR smart glasses it’s developing with Google will have a 9-hour battery life on a single charge.
Towards the end of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked keynote to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 series, the company revealed a few key specs for the Android XR glasses it’s been working on. We’ve seen several leaks so far, but Samsung is clearly getting comfortable enough with the progress it’s made to begin pulling back the curtain a little further.
Samsung’s Android XR glasses will have a 9-hour battery life to get you through the day. With the case, the life expectancy goes up significantly. Samsung says the case can charge the glasses “more than 7 times.”
Pre-release estimates are always a bit generous, but a 9-hour battery seems like a decent place to start. Meta’s display smart glasses are rated for up to 6 hours before requiring a charge. But Samsung’s first pair won’t have a screen built into the lens(es).
As for the Samsung glasses case, having that extra battery power means leaving the case disconnected from a charger at night or on a trip. It’s hard to imagine the case would last users a full week with 9 hours a day, at max. And once the smart glasses are dead, recharging them means going without 20/20 vision for glasses-wearers.
