Spain midfielder Gavi has said Argentina’s Leandro Paredes should not be suspended following the confrontation that broke out after the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
The incident occurred after Spain secured a 1-0 victory over Argentina, with several Argentine players and officials involved in a heated exchange as Spain celebrated their triumph.
Argentina players Paredes, Nahuel Molina and Thiago Almada, along with assistant coach Roberto Ayala, were involved in the confrontation. Paredes appeared to push Spain defender Eric Garcia by the throat, while Gavi attempted to intervene.
As reported by BBC Sports on Wednesday, Gavi, who was an unused substitute during the final, was pushed to the ground by Almada during the incident, while Paredes also placed his hand in the Barcelona midfielder’s face as tensions escalated.
