BUENOS AIRES, July 22 (UPI) -- A U.S. federal appeals court upheld a ruling ordering Argentina to pay $390.9 million over the expropriation of Aerolíneas Argentinas airline, rejecting the government's appeal seeking to overturn a judgment awarding compensation stemming from the airline's 2008 nationalization.
The ruling Tuesday by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit leaves the lower court's decision in force and allows Titan Consortium, the current holder of the claim, to continue legal proceedings in the United States.
Titan is seeking enforcement of the award. The decision does not require immediate payment, but strengthens the fund's position in the enforcement process.
Argentina's Treasury Attorney General's Office, the agency responsible for the state's legal defense, said it is analyzing the legal options available to try to overturn the decision or mitigate its consequences.
