Yoliswa Ngubane, who was laid to rest on Saturday, died after suffering fatal burns in an alleged arson attack in which she and her boyfriend were set alight, allegedly by his ex-girlfriend in the informal settlement of France, Pietermaritzburg last week.

The family of a Pietermaritzburg man who was allegedly burned to death alongside his girlfriend in a suspected arson attack says it hopes the mother of his children will spend the rest of her life behind bars.

The deaths of 35-year-old Mzokhona Shezi, of Taylors Halt, and his girlfriend, Yoliswa Ngubane, from Bulwer, have left their families and the wider community devastated.

Shezi was laid to rest on Monday, while Ngubane was buried on Saturday.

Speaking to Independent Media, Shezi's sister, Nokulunga Shezi, said the suspect and her brother had ended their relationship about a year ago, despite him having previously begun the traditional ukucela process to ask for her hand in marriage.
