Supported by higher power demand, increased generation and improved operational performance, Adani Power Ltd-the thermal power generation arm of the Adani Group reported a 42 per cent year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the first quarter of FY27.The net profit attributable to equity holders of the parent stood at ₹4,806 crore during the April-June quarter compared with ₹3,385 crore in the corresponding period of FY26. The company’s revenue from operations also increased 34 per cent year-on-year to ₹18,902 crore during the quarter. Adani Power’s consolidated power sale volume rose 16.9 per cent year-on-year to 28.8 billion units (BU) in Q1 FY27, compared with 24.6 BU in the same quarter last year, aided by higher operating capacity and strong electricity demand. India’s power consumption grew 8.8 percent year-on-year during the quarter to 485 billion units amid a hotter-than-usual summer, the company stated.The company’s installed generation capacity increased to 18,330 MW during the quarter from 17,550 MW a year ago. The plant load factor (PLF), a measure of capacity utilisation, improved to 77.9 percent from 67 percent in Q1 FY26. The company reported its highest-ever quarterly performance on operating parameters, with EBITDA increasing 36 percent year-on-year to ₹8,369 crore. On a continuing basis, EBITDA stood at ₹6,983 crore, up 22 percent year-on-year.During the quarter, Adani Power completed the acquisition of power assets of Jaiprakash Associates under the corporate insolvency resolution process. The acquisition includes the 180 MW Churk power plant, a 24 percent stake in Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd and an 11.49 percent stake in Prayagraj Power Generation Company Ltd. The company also signed a 25-year power supply agreement with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) for supplying 1,600 MW of power from a proposed 2x800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant to be developed under the design-build-finance-own-operate model.Adani Power is progressing with its capacity expansion programme aimed at increasing its generation portfolio to 45 GW. The company’s ongoing projects include the 1,320 MW Korba Phase-II project, which is expected to be commissioned during the current year, and 1,600 MW projects at Mahan, Raipur and Raigarh. The company said 87 percent of its upcoming capacity has received environmental clearance, while 56 percent has already been tied up under long-term power purchase agreements.Published on July 22, 2026
