Will Farrell, the chief security officer for TikTok’s US operation, will appear before the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party on September 15 to answer questions about Beijing’s influence over the app, Reuters reported.
He will be the first executive from the business recently sold to a group of US investors to testify since that ownership overhaul closed in January.
The committee, chaired by Republican John Moolenaar, intends to press Farrell on data privacy and on how much control ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese founder, still holds over the American company.
Those questions predate every attempt to ban TikTok, and the restructuring has not settled them.
