Beijing-based AI start-up Z.ai, also known as Zhipu AI, has completed construction of a large data centre that it plans to operate entirely using training and inference chips produced in China, Bloomberg reported.
The facility is planned to ultimately scale to 1 gigawatts, but is currently only partially in operation, the report said citing one unnamed person.
Z.ai plans to use it to train and deploy its GLM models, which have surged in popularity worldwide as they have closed the performance gap with models from US-based Anthropic and OpenAI.
