Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s widow files a R16.4m lawsuit against his mother a year after his death

Malcolm-Jamal Warner tragically died at the age of 54 after drowning while on holiday in Costa Rica

Exactly one year after the tragic drowning death of beloved actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, a bitter legal tug-of-war has erupted over his estate.

Tenisha Warner, the widow of "The Cosby Show" star, filed a $1.2 million breach of contract lawsuit against her mother-in-law, Pamela Warner, in Georgia’s DeKalb County Superior Court on July 20, 2026.

At the centre of the dispute is an unfulfilled prenuptial agreement and an outdated trust that leaves the late actor’s widow and their 9-year-old daughter caught between grief and financial uncertainty.

According to court documents obtained from DeKalb County Superior Court by “NBC News”, Tenisha alleges that Malcolm-Jamal failed to honour several key financial commitments outlined in their premarital agreement signed on May 15, 2022, eight days before their wedding on May 23, 2022.
