Anthropic has ended the months-long stalemate surrounding its top model, Fable 5. As of July 20, it can only be used in the expensive Max and Team Premium plans without additional costs, the company announced. Users of the cheaper Pro and Team Standard plans will lose free access completely and will instead receive a one-time usage credit of 100 US dollars, which can be used to continue using Fable 5.
On Max and Team Premium plans, Fable 5 continues to count towards the weekly limit but is still capped at 50 percent. Anthropic announced on X. Pro and Team Standard users, on the other hand, must now use credit for every Fable 5 request. Once this is used up, the regular API prices apply, with the most expensive price tag in Claude's offering.
From crisis to the waiting queue
Fable 5 was released on June 9 as the first publicly accessible model of the new Mythos class. Just three days later, the US government blocked access via export control order for all users worldwide after security researchers succeeded in bypassing protective mechanisms. The government only lifted the restriction at the end of June. Fable 5 has been back in Claude subscriptions since July 1, but has always been treated as a time-limited feature.
