High-visibility vests are a required part of vehicle equipment in Austria. They must comply with the European EN ISO 20471 standard, with yellow, yellow-green and orange versions accepted. The vest should be stored in the passenger compartment rather than in the boot, so the driver can put it on before leaving the vehicle in an emergency.
While an on-the-spot fine can start at around €14, administrative penalties can be much higher, according to the Czech motoring website.
