The United States and China will reportedly hold talks over artificial intelligence in September to discuss the risks posed by their increasingly powerful frontier models and the tensions that have arisen as they compete for dominance in the AI race.The dates have not yet been finalized, but the meeting is expected sometime before Chinese President Xi Jinping’s planned Sept. 24 visit to the U.S., Reuters reported, citing multiple sources. “This is the first meeting, they’re unlikely to solve any major problems. I think they will try to agree to some basic terms, like what defines a frontier AI model,” DGA-Albright Stonebridge Group partner Paul Triolo told Reuters.The discussion would be led on the U.S. side by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, four of the sources said.
