Thirteen people, including migrants being transported in a suspected smuggling operation, were injured Tuesday when a van crashed on the Egnatia Odos motorway in northeastern Greece.
The van collided with a car near the Mesti interchange, between the cities of Komotini and Alexandroupoli, before veering off the road. Police identified the driver, a Greek national, as the suspected smuggler.
All 13 occupants were taken by ambulance to Komotini General Hospital.
State broadcaster ERT reported that two people, a man and a woman, were seriously injured, while the others sustained minor injuries or were treated as a precaution.
The crash temporarily closed the motorway toward Komotini, with traffic diverted until the scene was cleared.
