Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, has alleged that the Thalassery Sessions Court’s release of Dr. Ram, the prime accused in the death of BDS student Nitin Raj in Kannur, due to procedural lapses during his arrest, exposes unpardonable negligence and serious lapses on the part of the police investigation.The MP said he will directly approach Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to demand immediate departmental action against the defaulting police personnel and an independent inquiry into the matter.He noted that it is a matter of grave concern that the accused, whose anticipatory bail plea had been rejected even by the Supreme Court, had to be released simply because investigating officers failed to strictly adhere to mandatory legal protocols during the arrest.“This development not only calls into question the competence of the investigating team but also shatters the victim’s family’s hope for justice,” he said.Pointing to the ongoing struggle of Nitin Raj’s family, who have been demanding justice for months, Mr Suresh recalled that concerns regarding attempts to derail the case had been raised by both the family and the public from the initial stages. Emphasizing that the failure to observe basic, mandatory arrest procedures cannot be viewed as a routine mistake, the MP demanded strict departmental action against the officers responsible for such oversights.He also called for a comprehensive probe into the circumstances that led to these critical procedural lapses. Mr Suresh expressed strong suspicions of collusion between the police and the accused right from the beginning of the investigation, calling it deeply alarming that the agency tasked with bringing offenders to justice was acting in a manner that facilitated their escape.
