Dr Guru Kistnasamy.

A FATHER plays a major role in the life of a child from birth to death.

A strong father who is physically and emotionally present in the life of his child inculcates positive qualities and can predict what type of adult that child will become.

A father can be influential in instilling values of self-esteem, confidence, inner discipline, motivation, care and compassion, respect, emotional self-regulation, and a determination to succeed educationally and economically.

Sadly, many fathers who are living play little or no role in the lives of their children. They may be physically present in their lives, but emotionally absent. Some fathers abandon their children, or visit occasionally with no contact in between. There are also fathers who show no compassion and subject their children to abuse.
