Golf’s global ecosystem has been strengthened by a new link-up that will increase opportunities for players in Asia.The PGA Tour and DP World Tour — through their Strategic Alliance — will partner with the Asian Tour to establish a formal pathway for Asian Tour members for at least the next three years, per a release on Tuesday.It marks a new chapter for the game and will see at least two co-sanctioned events between the Asian and DP World Tours added to the latter’s schedule for the 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons.The three-party agreement follows news last month that the Australian Open will be co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour through 2029, in a unique partnership with Golf Australia.There is a push to secure an international footprint as the future of rival LIV Golf remains uncertain following the removal of financial backing by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The breakaway league’s survival plan hinges on new investment and partnerships with national opens around the world.One of the tournaments that will benefit from this new collaboration is the Hong Kong Open.Cho Minn Thant, Commissioner and CEO of the Asian Tour, said in the release that it was the right time to collaborate, to help “increase the bandwidth of the professional game” within the region he oversees.“Not only will co-sanctioning events see our members competing regularly on the global stage, but we are excited to welcome players from the other Tours to our pinnacle events, which showcase the strength and diversity of golf in Asia,” he said.The DP World Tour and Asian Tour previously had a Strategic Alliance from 2016 to 2021, but this marks the beginning of a new era.Ben Cowen, chief tournament and operations officer for the DP World Tour, said it will provide “unprecedented opportunities” for Asian Tour members, while Christian Hardy, senior vice president of international at the PGA TOUR, added: “This agreement is another example of what can be accomplished when organisations come together with a shared vision for the future of professional golf.”Jul 21, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
