The American Civil Liberties Union, the National Women's Law Center and the National Center for Law and Economic Justice sued the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services on Monday, seeking records related to the Trump administration's attempt to freeze more than $10 billion in child care and family assistance funding earlier this year.
The lawsuit was filed under the Freedom of Information Act, which allows the public to request government records.
The groups say HHS has failed to produce records they requested in March about how the agency developed its child care funding restrictions, including communications with YouTube creator Nick Shirley and documents related to alleged fraud in federally funded child care programs.
Inside the FOIA Request The lawsuit is separate from earlier litigation over the funding freeze itself.
