Andy Burnham is widely expected to bring back HS2 to the North in some form having replaced Sir Keir Starmer as Prime Minister.
The former mayor of Greater Manchester has frequently spoken of his dissatisfaction with current rail infrastructure plans in the North of England.
The Labour Party has already committed at least £45bn towards Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) – a plan that will focus on improvements to infrastructure going from east-to-west across the North.
