PHILADELPHIA — After shortstop Trea Turner fired a routine ground ball to Bryce Harper at first to cap off a 10-7 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, ending a bizarre night of misplays, boos and home runs, the Philadelphia Phillies laughed as they gathered for handshakes and high-fives.Turner and Bryson Stott hugged. Harper and Alec Bohm joined them for a group hug. Everyone exchanged words — Turner, the infielders, Kyle Schwarber, the rest of the lineup — as Turner shook his head, raised his cap so it barely sat on his head and laughed.It was the only way to process the sheer ridiculousness of his night: two home runs, five RBIs, three misplays, one error.“I don’t remember what I said,” Stott said. “It couldn’t have been that funny. His lone error came in the first inning, then he doubled shortly after, and all was forgiven by the cheering Citizens Bank Park crowd. Then came a series of misplays, interspersed between several innings and two home runs — including a three-run shot that handed the Phillies a five-run lead in the sixth.Plenty of attention has already been granted to Turner’s shortcomings this season. Defensively, he has four errors in July and three in his last four games. He has been one of the worst fielders in the majors when measured in Outs Above Average and Defensive Runs Saved, marking a major regression from a strong year at shortstop in 2025.
