Facebook parent Meta faces a new trial this week in which the state of Tennessee accuses the company of deliberately designing Instagram to be addictive, in the latest of thousands of such cases facing social media firms.
Jury selection began on Monday in the case brought by the state’s attorney general.
The case, set to last seven weeks, alleges that Meta broke state consumer protection laws by designing a defective product and misleading users in the state over known harms.
