Lebanese troops entered Zawtar Al Gharbieh on Tuesday, marking the first town transferred from Israeli to Lebanese military control under the pilot-zone scheme.
Demining operations are the first priority, with soldiers surveying roads and residential buildings for unexploded ordnance before displaced residents can return.
Zawtar Al Gharbieh suffered extensive damage from fighting between Hezbollah and Israel, as well as demolitions carried out by Israeli forces during their occupation.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun's Washington visit follows inconclusive US-mediated talks in Rome, where no timetable was agreed for implementing the June framework.
