Ed Harris was not happy about his role in Yellowstone spin-off Dutton Ranch, revealing that he asked his team to “get me the f*** out of here” while shooting the first season. The Oscar-nominated star, who is locked in for two seasons on the show, said he felt “misled” about his character’s involvement in the series, and that he signed on believing he would be one of the main characters. When this wasn’t the case, it left him “a little frustrated”. “Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do – and that I was one of the four main characters,” Harris told Variety, adding: “And that wasn’t really the case.”Ed Harris 'felt misled' over 'underused' role in 'Dutton Ranch' (Paramount+)“I said, ‘I’m feeling underused and inconsequential’,” he continued. “I was just a little frustrated, to tell you the truth.”Westworld actor Harris, who appears on the series with Annette Bening, levelled that he thought the show was “pretty good” and that his character – veterinarian Everett McKinney – was “relatively important to the story”, even though it didn’t feel like that when he was making it.He added that he was left “really pissed off” after a singing scene he shot was cut from the final edit, which at the time he felt was “enough reason to say I’m voiding my contract”.“So there’s this scene in there,” he explained. “I’m talking to Beth [Kelly Reilly] at the bar, and Rip [Cole Hauser] comes in and says, ‘OK, Everett, come on, it’s your turn.’ I walk up to the mic, and they cut it. They cut the song out. I’m going, ‘F*** you, people.'”Despite Harris’ objections with the first season, he’ll be back for the second – and according to the actor, he’s been told that his character will have “a little bit more to do”. The original series ran for five seasons, concluding in December 2024.Costner’s decision to quit the series prompted Sheridan to end the show prematurely. At the time, Dances with Wolves actor-director Costner was rumoured to have locked horns with Sheridan over scheduling conflicts, with the producer publicly claiming that he was “disappointed” with the star.Sheridan recently revealed exactly what went down, telling The Bill Simmons Podcast that Costner’s tenure on the show was longer than anybody initially expected."He was only supposed to be in the first three seasons,” he said. “That was in his contract. In my mind, that's when his youngest son takes over [on the show], but the network was so scared of not having Kevin be a part of it.”Sheridan said that Costner “was ready to go” as “he had other things he wanted to do”, including his ill-fated Western trilogy Horizon – still, the Bodyguard actor remained on the show for another two seasons as it had become “such a behemoth”.But after five seasons, Costner decided enough was enough and, according to Sheridan, went “to go do his own thing”.Dutton Ranch follows Yellowstone characters Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler as they relocate to South Texas.
