Residents of the coastal village of Agiokampos in the Larissa regional unit, Thessaly, are on alert after two women were bitten by a fox in separate incidents over the weekend.
The first attack occurred on Saturday night, when a woman was bitten and taken to Larissa University Hospital for first aid and preventive rabies vaccination.
A second incident followed on Sunday, when a 17-year-old girl was attacked by a fox on Agiokampos beach. She was also bitten and hospitalized, where she received precautionary anti-rabies treatment.
Local authorities said the attacks were highly unusual, noting that foxes do not normally approach people so closely. They have sought advice from wildlife experts in an effort to determine what may have triggered the animal’s behavior and are awaiting further guidance.
