A growing number of young graduates in Samoa say finding their first job remains one of the biggest challenges after completing their studies, with many spending months searching for work despite holding tertiary qualifications.
While education is widely promoted as a pathway to employment, graduates say opportunities remain limited, particularly in the public sector where competition for vacancies is high. Others have turned to temporary work, help in family businesses or unpaid internships while waiting for permanent positions.
Recent National University of Samoa graduate Litia Tupuola, 23, said she has submitted more than 20 job applications over the past five months without securing full-time employment.
"I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I didn't expect it to take this long. Every interview gives me hope, but I still haven't received an offer," she said.
Information technology graduate Mikaele Fepulea'i, 24, said many young people were willing to work outside their field to gain experience.
