Snapchat parent Snap said it has reached a tentative agreement to settle with the plaintiff bringing in a lawsuit alleging that the platform is addictive to minors, the second landmark case set to start next week in Los Angeles.
The company’s disclosure means Facebook parent Meta is now the only firm continuing with the suit, after earlier settlements by Google’s YouTube and ByteDance’s TikTok.
Terms of the agreement with the plaintiff, identified as RKC, were not disclosed.
Thousands of claims
The four companies are facing more than 3,000 complaints from users or their families focusing on actions social media platforms have taken to increase user engagement, which the plaintiffs say has caused significant mental health problems for minors.
