Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has declared his country's readiness to intensify trade discussions with the U.S., amid the wake of new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.
Carney took to X late Monday and characterized the new tariffs as the latest in a series of unilateral U.S. trade actions, and a "direct violation" of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) by imposing a series of tariffs.
He also noted that Canada has made "detailed and comprehensive" proposals to resolve disputes and "modernize" the pact as Washington has altered its trade relationships.
The Prime Minister added that the ongoing trade dispute has caused immense distress and raised the cost of living for families, particularly in the U.S.
He confirmed readiness to "intensify those discussions" and resolve the outstanding issues with the U.S. for the "mutual benefit" for both nations.
