The CLA L was developed specifically for the Chinese market, where long-wheelbase passenger cars are particularly popular. However, demand appears to have fallen well short of expectations. According to the report, disappointing sales of the long-wheelbase electric sedan are considered the most likely cause. Industry sources cited by mb passion indicate that only 627 units of the CLA L were sold during the first half of 2026. Registration figures also suggest limited market traction throughout the year.
The model recorded 35 new registrations in January and 21 in February. Registrations temporarily increased to 358 units in March before falling back to 52 in April. A further 161 vehicles were registered in May, while no new registrations were recorded in June. As mb passion states, it remains unclear whether the absence of registrations in June is directly linked to the reported production halt or whether other factors, such as inventory levels, logistics or delivery timing, contributed to the figures.
