The incident happened at about 4:30pm in the Malamawar Yan Dutse community when a boat carrying 40 farmers and labourers overturned while attempting to ferry passengers across a river.
The death toll from the tragic boat accident that occurred in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State has increased to six, while rescue teams continue frantic efforts to locate 34 other passengers who remain unaccounted for after the vessel capsized on Sunday.

Confirming the latest casualty figures on Monday, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shi'isu Adam, said security personnel, emergency responders and local divers had intensified rescue operations in search of those still missing.
According to the police spokesperson, six bodies have so far been recovered from the river, while a coordinated search involving the police, the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and experienced local divers is ongoing.
