The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) reported on July 20 that the construction site keeps an average of 7,170 direct workers but needs 1,500 to 2,000 more, concentrated on the passenger terminal, the internal airport roads and finishing work.
It has ordered contractors to raise the direct workforce to nearly 9,000 and add indirect staff to speed up construction, equipment installation, inspection and paperwork.
Component project 3, which covers the airport's essential works, has reached nearly 78% of its contracted progress, with the main construction packages at close to 70%.
The passenger terminal, the largest building on the site, has passed 77% on finishing work, with crews plastering walls, waterproofing, painting, tiling and installing ceilings, partitions and interiors. It is due to be completed in September, ahead of three rounds of trial operations that ACV plans for September, October and November.
Long Thanh landed its first flights at a technical opening on Dec. 19, 2025, but scheduled passenger service has not begun. ACV is targeting commercial operation from Dec. 1.
