The member representing Owode/Onire State Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rukayat Shittu, has joined female parliamentarians from across West Africa in calling for stronger legislative action to combat violence against women and girls.

Shittu participated in the West Africa Female Parliamentarians CD Peer Review Conference on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, held in Accra, Ghana, where lawmakers, gender advocates and development partners reviewed existing legal frameworks and explored strategies for strengthening regional collaboration.

The three-day conference was organised by the Women in Politics Forum with support from the UN Women West and Central Africa Regional Office and the European Union.

It brought together female legislators, gender ministers, members of the ECOWAS Parliament and representatives of development organisations to assess legislative responses to gender-based violence and identify areas requiring stronger implementation.
