Two earthquakes measuring 5.2 and 5.7 in magnitude struck near Kouzaran in Kermanshah province on Monday morning, July 20.
According to the Seismological Center, the first quake occurred at 7:13 am with a magnitude of 5.2. Just five minutes later, a second quake measuring 5.7 in magnitude struck the same area.
A spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Organization reported that three people sustained injuries while attempting to flee during the earthquakes.
The organization noted that the tremors were felt across neighbouring provinces, including Ilam, Lorestan, Hamadan, Kurdistan, and Markazi.
Officials also emphasised that the earthquakes were entirely natural seismic events caused by active regional fault lines and had no connection to other developments, a clarification seemingly aimed at dispelling public speculation linked to recent US and Israeli strikes in Iran.
