Guwahati: Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar was found hanging in the bathroom attached to his chamber at the state police headquarters on Monday, officials said. The senior IPS officer was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.Head of the Department of Medicine at Agartala Government Medical College and Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, Dr Pradip Bhowmik, said Dhankar was declared dead after doctors examined his vital parameters. He added, "We have sent Dhankar's body for a post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death can only be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received."A 1994-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre, Dhankar took charge as the state's DGP on May 17 last year, succeeding Amitabh Ranjan. Before that, he served as DGP (Intelligence), Tripura.

He previously served as DGP for Intelligence in Tripura.
