The Accountant General’s (AG) figures on State finances for the first quarter of 2026-27 demolishes the arguments in the White Paper on Kerala’s fiscal health published by the UDF government, senior CPI(M) leader and former Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal has said.Of the ₹1,69,646 crore total revenue receipts expected in 2026-27, the treasury has already received ₹33,311 crore during the first quarter (April, May and June). Of this, goods and services tax (GST) alone accounts for ₹28,059 crore.Since the UDF government took over only in May, the real reasons for this revenue increase are the measures adopted by the previous LDF government for restructuring the State GST department and the IT-based measures for plugging tax leakage, Mr. Balagopal said.The AG has recorded excellent growth in revenues, and the figures vindicate the fiscal policies of the LDF government, he said.
