The fight over AI in Hollywood used to be about the future. This month it turned into a fight about the present. Within days, a studio, a director and a union each drew a line. The lines do not agree.
Taken together, they show an industry that has already let the technology in. Now it is only arguing about the terms.
The director’s warning
Christopher Nolan is not a man given to hype. His new version of “The Odyssey” is topping the box office. It is also the first feature shot entirely on Imax film. So when he talks about technology, Hollywood listens.
Asked by interviewer Hugo Travers whether AI might be a modern Trojan horse, Nolan laughed. “I think AI is a Trojan horse that everybody knows the Greeks are inside,” he said, in remarks reported by TechCrunch. He called it “a transparent horse, it’s made of glass.”
