MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines had the most expensive power rates among Asean countries in June, and the increasing fuel prices may lead to new increases in Filipinos’ electricity bills, a government official said.
“We had the highest power rates in the Asean, even more expensive than Singapore’s,” DOE undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara said in a media briefing on Monday.

The blow was even felt in the Visayas, with Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative recording the highest on-grid residential rate at P16.57 per kilowatt hours (kWh), 32 percent up from a month ago’s P12.53 per kWh.
