[Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada]
After more than 50 years at the helm of the Greek Orthodox Church in Canada, Archbishop Sotirios will formally submit his resignation on Tuesday to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
The departure of the 90-year-old prelate from office will bring to a close one of the longest and most influential episcopal tenures in the Greek diaspora.
His successor has yet to be named.
In his final public address, Sotirios avoided recounting the achievements of his lengthy ministry, instead framing his departure as a natural handover of responsibility. “The time has come for me to hand over the baton,” he said, adding that he leaves “without regret,” entrusting the judgment of his work to God.
