Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Monday (July 20) handed over a cheque of ₹90,85,500 to the family members of K. Shankar — a driver at the corporation who succumbed after an immolation bid during the RTC employees’ strike in April.Speaking at the RTC Employees Ceyutha programme held in Hyderabad, Mr. Prabhakar assured that Shankar’s son Hemanth would be provided with a job and the family with a house. The deceased driver’s wife Hemalatha and daughter Shalini too were present on the occasion.One of the demands during the strike was merger of the corporation with the government. The Transport Minister said that they will stand by the assurance given regarding the merger. Retired employees were informed that measures are being taken to address their issues.The Minister said that RTC bus services are being integrated with MMTS and Hyderabad Metro Rail operations. The bus services were introduced on new routes connecting villages to the State capital. Mr. Prabhakar said that a bus terminal would be built in Core Urban Region (CURE).
