In almost every clubhouse across Major League Baseball, card collecting has become a topic of conversation. Some players participate by ripping packs, while others target specific cards they want to collect. Teammates have even helped each other to get involved.Last August, former Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Matt Strahm, one of the biggest card collectors in the league, put out a call to fans with particularly rare Bryce Harper cards who were interested in making a trade. Strahm was looking to help Harper build his own collection..So almost a year later, where does Harper’s Strahm-assisted collection stand? It’s small, but it now includes a card with sentimental value for him and his father.“I got one card, and it’s kinda the only card I wanted,” Harper told The Athletic.A Topps Dynasty one-of-one card that includes a piece of a baseball used in the 2018 Home Run Derby, which he won in his then home ballpark with his dad pitching to him, makes up the entirety of his card collection for now.“That was something that really hit home for me. Something I really wanted. One of one,” Harper said.What does Bryce Harper collect?When asked if he sees more cards in his future, Harper said he didn’t know.“I’m not really the biggest card person,” he admitted. “We’ll see. I know Trout and all those guys are into it a lot. I talk to Mike about it a lot, so we’ll see.”But just because he isn’t the biggest card guy doesn’t mean he’s not a collector. He has a sizable hat collection, as well as two other main areas of focus.“I think jerseys from other players is big, as well. I just got (Justin) Verlander a couple days ago. We were in Detroit. There’s certain jerseys that I like to have,” Harper said. “You got to kind of have the upper-echelon career. I just want the guys who are at the top of the game, who have been on top of their game for a long time. So being able to kind of get those for my kids is really big for me.”
