Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has ordered an emergency desilting operation in Uyo, expecially along Ikot Ekpene Road and Itam market axis due to floods in parts of the State capital.

The exercise, has therefore commenced and continued on Sunday having been carried out on the directive of Governor Eno to clear blocked drainage channels and restore the free flow of water.

The operation is being coordinated by the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), led by Akon Eyakenyi, Deputy Governor, in collaboration with the Ministry of Works, Ministry of Environment, and Akwa Ibom State Environmental and Waste Management Agency. The coordinated response is aimed at mitigating the effects of the flooding and preventing further damage to lives and property.

Officials from the various agencies have been deployed to affected streets and major roads across Uyo, where they are clearing silt and debris from drainage systems.
