The United States carried out its ninth consecutive night of strikes against Iran, targeting military infrastructure, missile facilities, air defenses and other strategic sites, as tensions continued to escalate following the collapse of an interim ceasefire agreement.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest operations focused on Iranian military command centers, coastal surveillance installations, air defense systems, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communication networks. The strikes were aimed at reducing Tehran’s ability to target commercial shipping and civilian vessels moving through the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest wave of attacks came after Washington confirmed the deaths of three US service members. Two American troops were killed in an Iranian strike on a US base in Jordan, while another service member died in Iraq during the controlled destruction of a downed Iranian drone.
US President Donald Trump said the new strikes were carried out in response to the deaths of the troops. “We’ll see what happens, but we hit them very hard again tonight,” Trump told reporters after returning to Washington from the World Cup final, adding that the attacks were conducted “in honor” of the fallen service members.
