Lithuania's Reception and Integration Agency has filled 60% of its accommodation capacity, as secondary migration from Latvia continues to increase, according to the latest figures.
The agency runs three main temporary accommodation centres, in Vilnius, Rukla and Pabradė, with a combined capacity of 1,000 people. As of July 13, the centres were housing 628 foreign nationals from a range of countries of origin.
The agency said vacant places were still available, meaning there was no immediate need to activate additional infrastructure. However, it said the situation was being monitored continuously, in coordination with the interior ministry, taking into account occupancy levels and migration forecasts.
Lina Gediminė, a spokeswoman for the agency, said it was strengthening its capacity as migrant numbers rose, adding that, if necessary, efforts would be made to ensure adequate housing, social and healthcare services, legal aid and translation services.
The State Border Guard Service, meanwhile, said its detention facilities were currently at 50% capacity, suggesting no immediate need for expansion.
