Latest news, analysis and much more on Mirror Football's Facebook pageThere was a lot of noise around Trump’s involvement in the trophy presentation, with the President making his way out onto the pitch alongside Infantino. There were some audible jeers as the duo made their way to the middle of the pitch, but it was the FIFA chief’s footwear that caught Rooney’s eye.As the two walked out, Joe Hart said on BBC’s coverage of the presentation: “Waz’s (Rooney’s) golf partner there.”The comments get no response from the former England captain, with presenter Gabby Logan saying: “He’s hung you out to dry there.”Micah Richards added “It’s the first time you’ve been speechless!” Rooney then responded: “I’m speechless at Infantino’s trainers, he talks about everything else, and then he comes. He has to represent FIFA better than that. With those trainers on, it’s stupid.”Logan added: “That’s half-time entertainment, that’s VAR and trainers with suits, that’s a trio of hate from Wayne Rooney at this World Cup. There’s a few other things that you might want to bring up with it, but his trainers will be on the list.”It’s not only Rooney who had a problem with Infantino’s footwear. Supporters watching the game took to social media to give their thoughts. “You could see Infantino’s trainers from space,” one said.“Rooney having pop at Infantino’s white trainers, calling them “stupid”. Class,” a second said. “Look, its very much not the worst thing he has done, but Infantino combining a dark grey suit with the whitest trainers in history just reeks of a man out of touch with reality,” a third added.A fourth said: “Right at the end, Infantino wearing white trainers with his suit is the worst thing that’s happened at the World Cup. Congrats.”After handing out the medals, both Infantino and Trump presented the World Cup trophy to Spain captain and player of the tournament, Rodri. Despite hints from both the midfielder and Infantino that he should leave the podium, Trump appeared to be keen to hang around for when the trophy was lifted into the air.He was, however, quickly ushered off stage by the FIFA president shortly after the trophy lift. It’s not the first time something similar has happened with Trump remaining on stage as Chelsea lifted the Club World Cup last summer.Article continues belowJoin our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
