The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that a US service member was killed and another was injured on Saturday, July 18, during the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from an Iranian kamikaze drone in northern Iraq.
In a statement released on Sunday, CENTCOM explained that the incident occurred during an operation to safely detonate unexploded munitions from a previously downed Iranian suicide drone. According to the statement, the injured service member sustained minor injuries and remains under medical care.
The command also provided an update regarding the July 17 Iranian attack in Jordan, stating that, following an extensive search, US military forces recovered unidentified human remains at the crash site on Sunday. CENTCOM added that the process of examining and identifying the remains is currently underway.
On Saturday, the command reported that two US service members had been killed and one remained missing following the strike in Jordan.
CENTCOM stated that further details, including the identities of the deceased and missing personnel, are being withheld pending the completion of next-of-kin notifications.
