Hearn and Matchroom have agreed a five-year investment in Brentwood
Brentwood Town FC are targeting promotion to the National League for the first time after fresh investment from Barry Hearn and Matchroom in his local football club.Brentwood-based Matchroom has renewed its deal as the club’s main sponsor for a further five years as part of a “significant investment” designed to boost their chances of reaching the fifth tier following promotion to the seventh tier in 2025.“Whilst obviously the financial support from the partnership helps the club, it is genuinely having Barry and Matchroom behind us and part of our set up that is the real silver bullet,” said Brentwood chairman Jez Dickinson. “We have assembled once again this year a team equipped to play National League football now and whilst promotion is never a given, the clear and focussed objective now is promotion and National League football.”Dickinson added that plans were in place to develop their stadium by adding new stands, changing rooms and club house over the coming year, in order to meet National League standards.Hearn, Matchroom and footballMulti-sport promoter Matchroom is best known for staging high-profile boxing events involving the likes of Anthony Joshua but also runs the professional circuits in darts and snooker.Previously, Hearn, 78, owned Leyton Orient for almost two decades before selling the east London club in 2014.“As a global sporting empire which was founded here in Essex and has thrived for over 40 years since, we are incredibly proud to significantly boost our partnership with Brentwood Town FC,” said Hearn.“Sport has the power to change lives.
