LONDON — Britain’s new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, tried to hit the ground running Tuesday after assembling his top team and unveiling a plan to cut energy bills.
The former mayor of Greater Manchester became Britain’s leader on Monday, replacing Keir Starmer and inheriting the Labour Party’s House of Commons majority. Burnham has already overseen a clear-out of key Starmer allies, and picked former Defense Secretary John Healey as his top finance minister.
